Each neighborhood’s tree cover was studied to see how much canopy coverage it had and to find areas with low canopy coverage. Out of 88 neighborhoods and cities, 44 had low tree coverage or less than 20% coverage. Eleven of those had less than 10% coverage and are suggested to be priority neighborhoods for future tree planting.

Neighborhoods with less than 10% canopy coverage that are recommended for tree plantings include:

  • Metairie Business District

  • Rosedale North

  • Rosedale South

  • Shrewsbury

  • Elmwood Industrial Park

  • City of Grenta

  • Old Harvey West

  • Old Harvey East

  • Marrero & Kings Grant

  • Bellemeade &Meadowbrook

  • Harvey & Peters Road

  • Grand Isle

Next, we zoomed into each of the priority neighborhoods and looked for publicly owned areas to propose tree plantings. The following maps of each neighborhood showing canopy coverage, government owned parcels, rights-of-way, and land uses were used.
